Done and dusted

by Andrew

It’s over! I didn’t quite reach my time target, finishing in 4:02:42 but still very happy with that as it is a PB, it was very hot and I almost passed out on the home straight! It was also incredibly worthwhile knowing that I had beaten my sponsorship target, so many thanks to all who were a part of that total.

there is still time to sponsor me if you haven’t yet (link on the right!)

3 days to go!

by Andrew

All of a sudden I am in the last week of training and there are only 3 days to go until the big day.

The last few weeks of training have been much easier with as I have tapered off on the long runs. The time hasn’t been without it’s frustrations though as I had to manage the potential issues with my knees and hip mentioned before.

With some physiotherapy and subsequent maintenance I have managed things ok. My legs are still complaining but luckily nothing will be stopping me on Sunday! This time around I feel that I know how to listen to my body more in order not to overdo things before the race. Through past experience I hope to also be able to push myself in the race itself having been more careful to ensure less injury and more leg strengthening. This coupled with the fact that I have the long run from training in the bag should give me a huge psychological boost on the day.

The final week itself has included some running near the Pyrenees south of Toulouse during a long weekend away with friends. Tough steady inclines and plenty of heat! Also some sports massage as well as a few final steady/mixed pace runs of no more than 40 minutes and a trip to the gym for a bike session.

Today is my registration day so after lunch will be heading over to Excel in Docklands to pick up my number, chip etc. Hopefully I can get my name printed on my vest too!

Speaking of my vest, if you are thinking of coming to watch at all then my number is 44527. I will be wearing orange and am running for Oasis. Any support along the route is much appreciated, it is great to see friendly faces to help spur me on.

Please don’t forget to sponsor me, there is still time!

Let the long runs commence!

by Andrew

I havn’t updated the blog for a few weeks, not sure whre the time is going! I recently finished a 10K training plan with MiCoach which has hopefully got me up to a good base level from which to continue in to the longer runs of what is left of my Marathon training.
